SEO Audit Services That Find What Is Actually Holding You Back

Most audits hand you a 90 page report and leave. Ours tells you the three things costing you traffic right now, what to do about each one, and in what order. You keep the findings whether or not you work with us.

  • 20 years in search
  • Findings ranked by revenue impact
  • Yours to keep
  • No long-term contract

What Are SEO Audit Services?

SEO audit services are a professional diagnostic of your website that identifies the technical, content and authority problems preventing it from ranking, then ranks those problems by how much traffic and revenue each one is costing you. A proper audit examines four areas: technical health, meaning whether search engines can crawl, render and index your pages correctly; on-page optimization, meaning whether your titles, headings, content and internal links match what people actually search for; authority, meaning the quality of the links and citations pointing at your site; and competitive position, meaning what the sites outranking you are doing differently. The output is not a list of everything that could be improved. It is a prioritized action plan that tells you what to fix first, why it matters, and what fixing it is worth.

TL;DR

icon number

An audit is a diagnosis, not a deliverable.

Its value is in what you do next. A report nobody implements is worth nothing.

icon number 1

Most sites have at least one issue actively suppressing pages.

Not underperforming. Suppressed. Those are the fastest wins available to you.

icon number 2

Free scanning tools find symptoms, not causes.

They flag a missing meta description. They will not tell you that a single setting is stopping every link on your page from passing value.

icon number 3

Findings must be ranked by impact.

An audit that lists 200 issues without telling you which three matter has moved the work onto you.

icon number 4

The technical layer is where the money usually is.

Crawling, indexing, page speed and structured data problems are invisible to you and obvious to Google.

icon number 5

You should own the output.

Our findings are yours to keep and hand to any developer, whether you continue with us or not.

icon number 6

Pricing is scoped, not packaged.

Cost depends on site size, platform and how much has already been diagnosed. We will tell you the number before any work starts.

Why Most SEO Audits Do Not Change Anything

If you have bought an audit before and nothing improved afterwards, you are not alone. The problem is rarely that the findings were wrong. It is that they were unusable.

What an SEO Audit Actually Finds

These are real categories of problem we uncover regularly. Not hypotheticals. Each one is invisible from the front end of a website and each one suppresses rankings until someone finds it.

What we find What it costs you How often we see it
A page-level setting telling search engines not to follow any link on the page Every internal link on that page stops passing value. Often on the highest-value commercial page, because someone changed a setting once and nobody checked. Common after a redesign
XML sitemaps returning a 404 while robots.txt still points to them You are directing Google to a dead file on every crawl, slowing discovery of new and updated pages. Common after plugin changes
A parameter-tagged URL being indexed instead of the real service page Thousands of impressions land on the wrong URL. The page you built to convert never gets shown. Very common with Google Business Profile links
Duplicate or conflicting structured data Two blocks of markup describing the same page differently. Search engines resolve the conflict unpredictably, and you lose rich results. Very common on WordPress
Content that exists but is not crawlable Testimonials, FAQs and galleries loaded through scripts or third-party widgets are invisible to search engines, so the page reads as thin. Very common
Core Web Vitals failures caused by one heavy element Visitors leave before the page finishes loading. You paid to attract them and lost them in three seconds. Common on image-heavy sites
Pages competing with each other for the same term Two or three of your own pages split the authority that should sit behind one, so none of them rank. Common on sites over 50 pages

None of these show up in a free scanning tool as the problem they actually are. A tool reports a warning. Diagnosis requires someone who has seen the pattern before and knows which thread to pull.

What Is Included in Our SEO Audit Services

Technical SEO Audit Services

Some businesses do not need the full picture. They already know their content is solid and they suspect something underneath is broken. A standalone technical SEO audit focuses purely on the machine-facing layer: crawling, rendering, indexing, site architecture, structured data, redirects and page performance.

This is the right starting point if any of the following sound familiar:

  • Traffic dropped after a redesign, migration or platform change and nobody can say why
  • New pages take weeks to appear in search results, or never appear at all
  • Search Console is reporting indexing errors you do not understand
  • Your rankings are inconsistent in a way that does not track with your content
  • You are about to rebuild and want to avoid inheriting existing problems

Technical audits usually produce the fastest measurable movement, because you are removing an obstacle rather than building something new. Traffic that was already earned starts being counted.

How Our SEO Audit Process Works

Stage Timeframe What happens What you get
Scoping conversation Day 1 We learn your goals, your market, what you have already tried and what you suspect is wrong A defined scope and a fixed cost before any billable work begins
Data collection Days 2 to 5 Full crawl, Search Console and analytics review, competitive analysis, field performance data Nothing yet. This is the gathering phase
Diagnosis Days 5 to 10 A human reviews the findings, separates causes from symptoms, and quantifies impact The part software cannot do
Delivery and walkthrough Days 10 to 14 A live session with you and your developer to walk through findings and answer questions A prioritized action plan and a recording of the walkthrough

Most audits complete within two to three weeks. Larger sites and ecommerce catalogues take longer, and we will say so during scoping rather than after.

What Happens After the Audit

The findings only matter if they get implemented. These are results from clients who acted on what their audit surfaced.

Much of our work is with healthcare and regulated businesses, where the trust and compliance layer of an audit matters as much as the technical one. That depth carries across to every other sector we audit.

What SEO Audit Services Cost

We scope audits individually rather than selling packages, because a 20 page brochure site and a 4,000 page ecommerce catalogue are not the same job. What we will not do is start work before you know the number.

What drives the cost

Factor Effect on scope
Site size The main driver. Crawling and diagnosing 4,000 URLs is a different exercise from 40.
Platform WordPress, Shopify and custom builds each have their own common failure modes. Unusual stacks take longer.
Number of locations or markets Multi-location and multi-region sites need each presence assessed separately.
Regulatory context Healthcare, finance and legal sites need an E-E-A-T and compliance layer that a general business site does not.
Depth of deliverable A findings document, a full prioritized roadmap, and ongoing implementation support are different levels of engagement.

Market context, so you can judge for yourself

  • Under a few hundred dollars.

Almost always an automated tool export with minimal human review. You can get the same output yourself for free.

  • Mid market.

A genuine human audit of a small to medium site, which is where most businesses land.

  • Five figures and up.

Enterprise engagements, large catalogues, or audits bundled into an ongoing retainer. Some large agencies publish audit programs starting near $8,600 per month.

If the audit points toward ongoing work, our SEO programs start at $750 per month per location for local campaigns, $1,500 per month regional and $3,500 per month national. Full details are on our pricing page. There is no obligation to continue, and the audit findings are yours either way.

What Is an SEO Audit Actually Worth?

An audit does not generate traffic. It finds the traffic you are already earning and losing. That makes the return easier to model than most marketing spend, because you are recovering something rather than building it from zero.

The way to think about it

If your site has suppressed pages, you are already ranking for terms that are not being counted, already attracting visitors who bounce on a slow page, and already publishing content that is not being indexed. The audit’s value is the gap between what your site currently delivers and what it would deliver with the obstacles removed.

The assumptions

  • Recoverable uplift:

15% to 40% of existing organic traffic. This is the range we typically see when technical suppression is present and gets fixed. Sites with no significant issues sit at the bottom of that range or below it.

  • Conversion rate:

2%. Replace with your own. Service businesses often run higher, ecommerce lower.

  • Average value per conversion:

$1,000. Replace with your own. This is the number that moves the model most.

  • Timing:

Technical fixes tend to show within 30 to 90 days. Content and authority work takes longer.

placeholder image 3 3

Recovered Value at Three Site Sizes

Current organic sessions per month Recovered sessions at 15% Recovered sessions at 40% Added conversions per month Added annual value
1,000 150 400 3 to 8 $36,000 to $96,000
5,000 750 2,000 15 to 40 $180,000 to $480,000
20,000 3,000 8,000 60 to 160 $720,000 to $1,920,000

The honest read on this. These numbers assume there is something to find. If your site is already technically clean and well structured, an audit will confirm that and the recoverable uplift will be small. That is a legitimate outcome and we will tell you plainly rather than manufacturing findings to justify the fee.

What makes the maths work in most cases is that the audit is a one-time cost against a recurring gain. Traffic recovered in month two is still there in month twenty.

Why Choose Lead to Conversion for Your SEO Audit

  • A person reads your data, not just a tool

Software finds symptoms. Diagnosis requires someone who has seen the pattern before. Every audit we deliver has been reviewed line by line by a human who has spent years doing this.

  • Findings ranked by revenue, not severity score

You get a short list of what matters, ordered by what it is costing you, followed by everything else. If only five things get done this quarter, we make sure they are the right five.

  • Written for the person doing the work

Plain explanations of what is wrong and why, plus specific instructions your developer can follow. No translation layer required.

  • The findings are yours

Whether you continue with us or hand the document to another agency, you keep it. We would rather earn the follow-on work than lock you into it.

  • Depth in regulated categories

Twenty years of search work, much of it in healthcare and other regulated sectors where trust signals, compliance and E-E-A-T carry real weight. That rigour comes with us into every audit.

Frequently Asked Questions About SEO Audit Services

It depends on the size of your site, the platform it runs on, how many locations or markets you serve, and how deep a deliverable you need. We scope every audit individually and give you a fixed cost before any work begins. As market context: anything under a few hundred dollars is almost certainly an automated tool export you could generate yourself for free, most genuine human audits of small to medium sites sit in the mid market, and enterprise engagements run into five figures, with some large agencies publishing audit programs starting near $8,600 per month. We would rather tell you our number in a fifteen minute conversation than publish a package price that fits nobody.

Most audits complete within two to three weeks from the scoping call. Data collection takes three to five days, diagnosis takes another week, and delivery includes a live walkthrough with you and your developer. Larger sites, ecommerce catalogues with thousands of URLs, and multi-location businesses take longer, and we will tell you that during scoping rather than after you have committed. If you need something faster because of a launch or migration deadline, say so and we will tell you honestly whether it is achievable.

A free audit is almost always an automated scan. It crawls your site, compares it against a checklist, and outputs warnings. That is genuinely useful for catching obvious problems like missing meta descriptions or broken links, and if that is all you need, use a free tool. What a scan cannot do is tell you which of its 200 warnings actually matter for your business, diagnose why your traffic dropped in March, or spot that a single setting is stopping every link on your most valuable page from passing value. Paid audits are worth it when you need a cause rather than a symptom list.

AI is genuinely useful for parts of the job. It can summarize crawl data, spot patterns across large exports, draft recommendations and speed up analysis considerably. We use it ourselves. What it cannot currently do reliably is access your Search Console and analytics data in context, understand your commercial priorities, judge which of several plausible explanations for a traffic drop is the actual one, or take responsibility for the recommendation. An AI-generated audit tends to be confidently generic. The valuable part of an audit is the judgment about what to ignore, and that still requires someone accountable for being right.

A technical audit focuses on the machine-facing layer of your website: whether search engines can crawl your pages, whether they render the same way for crawlers as for visitors, how your site handles redirects and canonical URLs, whether your XML sitemaps are valid and complete, whether your structured data is correct and consistent, your Core Web Vitals performance measured from real visitors, mobile usability, and site architecture. It excludes content strategy and link building, which are separate layers. Technical audits often produce the fastest measurable improvement because you are removing an obstacle rather than creating something new.

Either. The audit itself is a diagnostic and the findings are yours to keep and hand to whoever you like, including another agency. If you want us to implement, we can do that through an ongoing SEO program or through hourly consulting where we direct your internal team. Many clients start with the audit, implement the top few items themselves, and come back for the harder work. There is no obligation to continue, and we do not hold the findings hostage to a retainer.

For most businesses, a full audit once a year is sensible, with a lighter technical check quarterly. There are also specific moments when an audit is worth doing regardless of timing: before and after a website redesign or migration, when organic traffic drops without an obvious explanation, when you change platform or hosting, when you are about to invest significantly in content or link building and want to make sure the foundation holds, and when you take over a site whose history you do not know. Auditing before a big investment is far cheaper than discovering the foundation was broken afterwards.

Usually, yes, and this is one of the most common reasons people come to us. Sudden drops typically trace to a small number of causes: a technical change that shipped with a redesign, a redirect or canonical error, an accidental noindex or nofollow setting, a Google algorithm update that affected your category, lost backlinks, or a competitor making a significant move. Diagnosing it means correlating the exact timing of the drop in Search Console against your deployment history and known algorithm updates. The sooner you look, the easier it is, because recent changes are still traceable.

Yes. We work across WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, HubSpot, Webflow and custom builds. WordPress is where we do the most volume and where we know the failure modes most intimately, but the diagnostic principles are platform independent. What changes is where the problems tend to hide. Shopify sites have characteristic issues around collection and variant URLs, Wix around rendering, and custom builds around whatever the original developer decided. We will tell you during scoping if your stack is unusual enough to affect the timeline.

A prioritized findings document that separates the handful of issues costing you real traffic from the long tail of minor improvements, with each item explained in plain language alongside specific implementation instructions for your developer. You also get a live walkthrough session with your team, a recording of that session, and the supporting data behind the findings. If the engagement includes a roadmap, you get the findings sequenced into an implementation plan with the order deliberately chosen so that earlier work does not have to be redone later.

Find Out What Your Site Is Losing

Tell us your website and what you suspect is wrong. We will do an initial review and come back with what we see, what it is likely costing you, and what a full audit would involve. No cost and no obligation for that first look.

  • An initial technical review of your site
  • An honest read on whether a full audit is worth it for you
  • A fixed scope and cost before any work begins
  • Findings that are yours to keep

No long-term contract required. If the audit shows your site is in good shape, we will tell you that.
